This cell type (called also somatotrophic cells, somatotropic cells, somatotrope cells, somatotrophs) is one of several cell types in the pituitary (the others being thyrotropes, lactotropes, corticotropes, gonadotropes) that secrete hormones (see also: neurosecretory cells).
