This Drosophila melanogaster gene encodes a homolog of the human ribosomal protein S6 and is a structural component of the 40S ribosome subunit (40S ribosomal protein S6). It is encoded by gene CG10944. The cDNA has been cloned by Spencer and Mackie (1993). The gene structure has been reported by Stewart and Denell (1993) (for gene structure of the human and rodent genes see also: Yoshihama et al, 2002)
