prion protein(23-42)
[PRNP(23-42)] This peptide with the sequence KKRPKPGGWNTGGSRYPGQG has been identified by Lee et al (2013). It is not known whether this fragment of rat prion protein is a degradation product or a cryptic peptide released from the parent protein and whether it may act as a non-classical neuropeptide. The peptide is released from the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), the master circadian clock. However, its expression is not subject to circadian rhythms and the peptide is expressed during daytime and nighttime.
