This name has been given by Bucy (1930) to cells of the neural lobe of the bovine neurohypophysis (for human pituicyte differentiation see also: Shanklin, 1940). The cells - referred to as neurohypophysial glial cells or pituitary glial cells or neurohypophysial astrocytes or pituitary astrocytes - resemble neuroglial cells (astrocytes) in the nervous system.
