This term (Holze et al, 2018) refers to a form of cell death resembling apoptosis and induced by reactive oxygen species. This form of cell death is independent of all previously characterized cell death pathways, is independent of caspase activity, and plays an important role in limiting harmful inflammation associated with the production of reactive oxygen species.
