oligodendroblasts
This designation pertains to cells derived from neuroectoderm that represent proliferating immature oligodendrocytes. Together with astroblasts they constitute the majority of the dividing cells at the time during embryonic development when oligodendrocytes and astrocytes are being generated. These cells, together with some other precursor cell types, are likely all derived from earlier appearing stem cells and segregate at different stages in development. (Skoff and Knapp, 1991; Liu and Rao, 2004).
