[VGF nerve growth factor inducible] also: neuro-endocrine specific protein VGF; abbr. VGF, which is also the approved gene symbol. VGF as an acronym is a term with multiple meanings; the term as used for the neurosecretory protein is non-acronymic; hence often the designation VGF (non-acronymic). In some publications the protein is being referred to as SCG7 [secretogranin-7], which is a reference to the family of Granins (see, for example: Helle, 2004).
