Granins comprise a family of acidic soluble proteins known as Chromogranin A (abbr. CGA, CgrA), Chromogranin B (abbr. CGB, CgrB), and Chromogranin C (abbr. CGC, CgrC) (Helle et al, 2000). They are acidic proteins of a molecular mass of 48, 76 and 67 kDa, respectively, found in the secretory granules of a wide variety of endocrine and neuroendocrine cells (collectively named APUD cells; amine precursor uptake and decarboxylation) and neurons, being stored together with many different peptide hormones and neuropeptides
