neu

This is an activated cellular oncogene initially isolated from rat neuro/glioblastomas obtained after transplacental induction of tumors with ethylnitroso urea. Lymphoid tissues do not appear to express neu. In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD340.

neu encodes a transmembrane glycoprotein of 185 kDa (p185neu). Some carcinoma cells secrete a soluble form of the extracellular domain of neu into the conditioned medium.
