[lipoblast]
These cells are undifferentiated embryonic precursors of adipocytes. They are round cells that contain one or more large cytoplasmic vacuoles and intracellular glycogen. These cells are thought to bed derived from prolipoblasts, which are pleomorphic spindle- or stellate-shaped cells resembling fibroblasts and which contain little or no lipid. Lipoblasts develop into pre-adipocytes, which contain many lipid filled vacuoles, and these, eventually, give rise to mature adipocytes in which the small vacuoles have fused into a single large round fat vacuole filling the cytoplasm (Poissonet et al, 1988; Brooks et al, 1992)
