[jelly belly] jeb, encoded by gene CG30040, is a secreted protein that contains an LDL receptor repeat. jeb is required for visceral mesoderm development. In jeb mutants, visceral mesoderm precursors are formed but fail to migrate or differentiate normally so that no visceral muscles develop (Weiss et al, 2001).
