This general term refers to various populations of immune cells (for nomenclature see also: Spits et al, 2013; for an overview see also: Gladiator and LeibundGut-Landmann, 2013; Kumar, 2014; Cortez and Colonna, 2016; Moretta and Locatelli, 2016; Mjösberg and Spits, 2016; Gronke et al, 2016); for an overview of different subtypes see: Dzopalić T et al, 2019).
These cells are of lymphoid origin, but in contrast to lymphocytes don't express RAG-dependent rearranged specific antigen-specific receptors. They can produce an array of effector cytokines that in variety match that of T-helper cell
