This term has been used by Sayed et al (2015) to refer to endothelial cells obtained by transdifferentiation of human fibroblasts. The authors have shown that Poly(I:C), which is an agonist of the TLR3 receptor, combined with exogenous endothelial growth factors, transdifferentiates human fibroblasts into endothelial cells that are comparable to human dermal microvascular endothelial cells in immunohistochemical, genetic, and functional assays, including the ability to form capillary-like structures and to incorporate acetylated low-density lipoprotein. The transdifferented cells and human dermal microvascular endothelial cells
