Gamma-cells are morphologically identifiable ganglion cells (neurons) in the primate retina. The term is used for a group of ganglion cells that are none of the other two ganglion cell types, called alpha-cells and beta-cells. These cells differ from others in their dendritic branching pattern, the number of cone cells to which they synapse, and in the shape and branching level of their axons (Boykott and Wassle, 1991) and represent a class of horizontal cells.
