fragilis3

This gene has been cloned by Lange et al (2003). It is a member of a gene family of putative interferon-inducible genes that encodes at least one member (fragilis) that is a transmembrane protein associated with the acquisition of germ cell competence by epiblast cells (Saitou et al, 2002). fragilis3 is the same as IFITM2, which has been shown to be involved in cell death by apoptosis.
