[embryotrophin]
also: embryotropins or embryotrophic factors. This is a collective term for activities (growth factors, cytokines, low molecular weight compounds) that support morula or blastocyst formation and development (For comparison see also: embryokines). They may act in an autocrine or paracrine fashion as growth factor and/or survival signals for the pre-implantation embryo. Such factors also play a role in priming of the uterus for the establishment of pregnancy and in mediating the embryo-maternal paracrine dialogue and thus orchestrate various processes influencing embryo implantation and trophoblast invasion (Orsi et al, 2008).
