[chromaffin cell]
These cells are located in the adrenal medulla and in paraganglia. The name derives from the observation that they stain dark brown when they have been exposed to ammoniacal silver nitrate and fixed with a dichromate solution (see also: chromaffin). These cells are called also pheochrome cells or pheochromocytes. Chromaffin cells have been shown to be derived from peripheral glial stem cells known as Schwann cell precursors, which are associated with peripheral axons during embryonic development (Furlan et al, 2017).
