This peptide, YPVEP (Tyr-Pro-Val-Glu-Pro), called Q1 peptide by Kitazawa et al (2007), is one of several biologically active fragments obtained by enzymatic digestion (actinase E) of beta-casein and corresponds to casein-beta(114-118). It has been shown to be a potent chemoattractant for macrophages and promotes calcium mobilization in macrophages, an indication of cell activation. The peptide is not chemotactic for neutrophils, T-cells, or dendritic cells.
