[name abbr. from Zinc finger, apoptosis and cell cycle; this is the same as ZAC] The Zac-1 gene (Spengler et al, 1997) is known also as LOT1 (lost on transformation 1), which is a gene the expression of which is decreased or lost in transformed rat ovarian surface epithelial cell lines (Abdollahi et al, 1997). The same gene is known also as PLAGL1 (Pleomorphic adenoma gene-like-1; Smith et al, 2002), which is also the approved gene symbol. Valleley et al (2007) have identified 15 alternatively spliced Zac-1 transcripts in lymphocytes.
The gene is a paternally expressed imprinted gene encoding a zinc finger protein
