[ten-cysteine protein 2] The gene encoding this protein has been identified in a search for proteins that are not expressed in neutrophils and macrophages of knock-out mice lacking expression of transcription factor C/EBP-epsilon (Chumakov et al, 2004; Kubota et al, 2000). The protein is identical with FIZZ-1, a protein related to resistin and known also as HIMF [Hypoxia-induced mitogenic factor] or RELM-alpha [Resistin-like molecule-alpha] (Holcomb et al, 2000).
