[Wu blood group antigens]
[Wulfsberg antigen]. This antigen (Wu antigen), first described by Kornstad et al (1976), is a rare low-incidence erythrocyte antigen. Zelinski et al (1998) and Jarolim et al (1998) have reported that a G-to-C mutation in band 3 protein (CD233) gives rise to a Gly565-to-Ala substitution and accounts for the Wu red cell polymorphism. Band 3 is the same as SLC4A1 [solute carrier family 4 member 1] and the Wu blood group antigen, therefore, can be assigned to the Diego blood group system.
