band 3

band 3 protein is an erythrocyte anion transport protein. The primary structure of the protein has been reported by Kopito and Lodish (1985) and Tanner et al (1988). Demuth et al (1986) have cloned a human non-erythroid band 3 protein (HKB3) and MEB3 [mouse erythrocyte band 3], which show a high degree of sequence homology (71 %) and conservation of the overall topography of the transmembrane domain (see also: Tanner et al, 1988). The protein is expressed in erythrocytes and kidney cells, with kidney cells expressing truncated forms (see: AE1).
