WSSV449 is an an anti-apoptosis protein encoded by open reading frame orf390 of WSSV [white spot syndrome virus], a large, non-occluded, enveloped dsDNA virus of approximately 300 kbp, which is the causative agent of White spot disease in penaeid shrimps (Leu et al, 2009). Leu et al (2010) have referred to the protein as AAP-1 [anti-apoptosis protein-1].
WSSV449 can block apoptosis in insect cells induced by Actinomycin D and Drosophila protein Reaper (Leu et al, 2008; Yan et al, 2010).
