(said to be an acronym derived from "weird chemokine") This factor was isolated from endothelial cell lines (derived from the AGM region; see also primitive hematopoiesis). The factor influences hematopoiesis and appears to regulates hematopoietic differentiation in different ways. It blocks the growth of yolk sac-derived endothelial cells and is chemotactic for bone marrow cells. WECHE inhibits the formation of erythroid cells without having any effects on myeloid or B-cell formation.
