The term uteroglobin has been given to a steroid-inducible, low molecular weight, secreted protein from the rabbit uterus during early pregnancy that stimulates the growth of preimplantation embryos (Baier, 1968). Uteroglobin is a homodimeric disulfide-bonded secretory protein found initially in rabbit uterus (Mantile et al, 1993). The protein is produced also by tracheo-bronchial, gastrointestinal, prostatic, and seminal vesicular epithelium and is secreted by the mucosal epithelial of virtually all mammals. Goblet cells
