abbr. UCN and renamed Urocortin-1 (UCN1; UCNI) following the identification of two related factors, Urocortin-2 and urocortin-3. Urocortin is the mammalian homolog of fish Urotensin-1 (Vaughan et al, 1995). Urocortin is a member of the corticotropin releasing factor (CRF) protein family. Urocortin is a neuropeptide that binds with high affinity to the CRF2 receptor. This suppresses appetite and food intake more potently than CRF (Spina et al, 1996), and also elicits anxiety-like effects and activation.
