[U937-derived fibroblast-activating factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor of 16-18 kDa is found in the conditioned medium of U937 cells. This factor promotes the proliferation of fibroblasts. It is not identical with IL1, TNF and bFGF and appears to be a unique factor as demonstrated by the known N-terminal amino acid sequence (see also: FAF, fibroblast activating factor). U937-FAF also stimulates the synthesis and release of prostaglandin E2 and proteoglycans by fibroblasts. See also: FAF (fibroblast activating factor).
