[Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor-7]. This protein has been termed also RFWD1 [ring finger and WD repeat domain-containing protein 1].
The gene encoding this protein (670 amino acids) has been identified by Bouwmeester et al (2004). The protein contains an N-termin RING finger domain, a non-canonical TRAF domain, a coiled-coil domain, and 7 copies of a C-terminal WD40 domain. The protein is involved in the activation of transcription factors NF-kappa-B and AP-1. Xu et al (2004) have reported that overexpression of TRAF7 induces cell death by apoptosis, which depends on the expression of caspases.
