[trophoblast-lymphocyte cross-reactive antigen] McIntyre et al (1983) have reported that antisera to human syncytiotrophoblast microvillous cell surface membranes from different placentas are cytotoxic for lymphocytes from some people but not others. These allotypic trophoblast lymphocyte cross-reactive antigens may be involved in establishing maternal recognition and protection of the blastocyst, with lack of recognition resulting in implantation failure and spontaneous abortion. This antigen is found on lymphocytes and trophoblasts (Kim et al, 1989; MacLeod et al, 1986).
