The gene is encoded by C2orf89 [chromosome 2 open reading frame 89]. The approved gene symbol is TRABD2A [TraB domain-containing protein 2A]. This gene is found in a variety of vertebrate species, including humans, but not in mice (Reis et al, 2014).
TIKI1 was identified originally as a protein that is required for anterior development during Xenopus embryogenesis. Overexpression of TIKI in Xenopus embryos caused head enlargement, whewreas knock-down of TIKI1 expression in Xenopus laevis embryos causes anterior defects and loss of forebrain structures (Zhang et al, 2012).
