T-BAM

[T-cell B-cell activating molecule] This activation induced surface protein on CD4(+) T-cells mediates a contact-dependent signal for the differentiation of B-cells and immunoglobulin secretion. T-BAM is expressed constitutively by the Jurkat T-cell lymphoma clone D1.1.

T-BAM is identical with 5c8 and both molecules are identical with the ligand for CD40 (CD40 ligand). The protein has been described also as IMD3, which is involved in Hyper-IgM immunodeficiency syndrome. The protein is known also as CD154. A new designation based on sequence homology is TNFSF5.
