[TNF ligand superfamily member 5] This designation is based on homology with other members of the TNF ligand superfamily of proteins. The protein in question is CD40 ligand, which is identical with TRAP [TNF-related activation protein]. Mutations in this gene are responsible for hyper-IgM immunodeficiency syndrome. Other designations are IMD3 [immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM immunodeficiency 3] T-BAM, CD154.
