ST38
ST38 was identified as a gene the expression of which was upregulated in ischemic rat brain tissues following middle cerebral artery occlusion. ST38 is a member of the family of CC-Chemokines closely related to human Exodus-1. The factor is known also as SCYA20. The approved gene symbol is CCL20
A role of ST38 in the control of neuro-inflammatory tissue responses is suggested by the observation that its expression correlates with the onset of inflammation and is reduced by neutralizing levels of TNF. ST38 transcription can be induced by inflammatory stimuli in cell culture of astrocytes, microglial cells and macrophages.
