[spermatogenesis related gene 2] This murine gene has been cloned from a mouse testis cDNA library. Its expression is changed significantly in cryptorchidism. The protein shows 78 % homology with TSARG2 and may play a role in cell death by apoptosis during testis spermatogenesis (Liu et al, 2002).

Liu et al (2004) have cloned the human gene, for which the approved gene symbol is SPATA4 [spermatogenesis associated 4]. The protein is being referred to also as TSARG2 [Testis spermatocyte apoptosis-related gene 2 protein].
