[SRCR domain]
[scavenger receptor cysteine-rich domains] This highly conserved protein module of approximately 100-110 amino acids is found in a number of widely expressed soluble or membrane-bound receptors known as the scavenger receptor superfamily. It was identified first in the macrophage scavenger receptor.
SRCR domains have been shown to bind a variety of ligands, and proteins containing such domains are thought to play a role in innate immunity by acting as pattern recognition receptors.
Two types of SRCR domains have been identified. Members of group A contain SRCR domains with 6 cysteine residues encoded by two exons. Members of group B usually contain 8 cysteines enmcoded by a single exon
