[scavenger receptor A; scavenger receptor class A] This receptor belongs to a class of pattern recognition receptors found on macrophages and is known as macrophage scavenger receptor. It has been termed also SRA-I [scavenger receptor AI] and SRA-II [scavenger receptor AII] (Krieger and Herz, 1994) because the receptor exists in two forms, which are produced from a single gene through alternative splicing of mRNA (Emi et al, 1993; Freeman et al, 1991).
