[sialic acid binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 1] In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD169. A databank synonym and previous gene symbol is C19orf75 [chromosome 19 open reading frame 75].
Crocker et al (1994) have cloned the murine sialoadhesin gene. The protein contains 17 immunoglobulin-like domains and mediates sialic acid-dependent binding to cells in a secreted and membrane-bound form.
