This term is used in reproductive biology to denote syncytiotrophoblasts (villous trophoblasts) as opposed to C cells (villous cytotrophoblasts) and to distinguish these from extravillous trophoblasts (abbr. EVTs). Note: don't confuse with S cells, which are enteroendocrine cells secreting the hormone secretin.
