This gene from Xenopus laevis, which shows a striking nucleotide and amino acid (86 %) sequence homology with the precursor of xenopsin, encodes two proteins termed Levitide (QGMIGTLTSKRIKQamide) and Amphipathic peptide (GWASKIGQTLGKIAKVGLQGLMQPK). The levitide precursor shows a striking nucleotide and amino acid (86 %) sequence homology with the precursor of xenopsin. Levitide is found in skin secretions and the close relationship with xenopsin suggests a function either as a neurohormone or antimicrobial peptide. The function of Amphipathic peptide is not known
