The octapeptide Xenopsin (abbr. Xp) (QGKRPWIL; Gln-Gly-Lys-Arg-Pro-Trp-Ile-Leu) and xenopsin precursor fragment (abbr. XPF) (GWASKIGQTLGKIAKVGLKELIQPK) are bioactive peptides derived from a single precursor molecule. The precursor protein contains the biologically active peptide at the carboxy-terminus (Sures and Crippa, 1984), and processing may give rise to additional bioactive proteins (Gibson et al, 1986).
In older references the term Xenopsin-related peptide-1 (abbr. XP-1, a term that has been used also for the avian counterpart) may refer to the octapeptide Xenopsin or closely related
