Phylloxins constitute a family of peptide precursors that have very similar N-terminal preprosequences followed by markedly different C-terminal domains. They have been identified in the skin of hylid frogs belonging to the genus Phyllomedusinae. Members of this family include the microbicidal dermaseptins and also dermorphin and deltorphins.
Phylloxin (GWMSKIASGIGTFLSGIQQamide) is a prototypical member of the family of antimicrobial peptides derived from the processing of a dermaseptin/dermorphin-like precursor. The sequence shows no homology to the dermaseptins, but bears some resemblance to precursors for levitide and xenopsin, two
