Dermaseptins are a family of related broad spectrum antimicrobial peptides of 27-34 amino acids derived from frog skin. They are involved in the defense against microbial invasion. These peptides possess a common preproregion and a variable C-terminal antimicrobial domain (Amiche et al, 1999). Dermaseptins and related family members show extensive sequence identities with precursors of opioid peptides dermorphin, dermenkephalin, and deltorphins, as well as adenoregulin (Mor and Nicolas, 1994; Amiche et al, 1994) and have been grouped into the family of phylloxins.
