PL74

This protein has been identified by Morrish et al (2001). It is expressed in the placenta (human syncytiotrophoblasts and extravillous cytotrophoblasts) and is involved in trophoblast development. The protein is a member of the TGF-beta family of cytokines. It is identical with GDF15 [growth/differentiation factor-15] and MIC1 (macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1), which have been identified independently as PDF (prostate-derived factor), PLAB (Placental bone morphogenetic protein), PTGF-beta, and NAG-1 [NSAID activated gene-1].
