PIBF
[progesterone induced blocking factor] This is the same as PIBF1 [progesterone induced blocking factor-1].
PIBF is produced by T-lymphocytes (obtained from healthy pregnant women) treated with progesterone. Production of this factor rises after invasion of trophoblasts. Binding of a specific antibody to the Gamma-Delta T-cells inhibits production of PIBF (Polgar et al, 1999).
The PIBF cDNA encodes a protein of 757 amino acids (89 kDa predicted), which shows no significant amino acid sequence homology with any known protein. The full-length PIBF is associated with the nucleus. Secretion of shorter forms, such a 34 kDa protein, is induced by cell activation
