also: PASIV [periodic acid/Schiff-positive protein 4; periodic acid/Schiff-positive band 4]. The acronym PAS refers to the staining behaviour (periodic acid/Schiff-positive) of a protein isolated by Greenwalt et al (1985) as a glycoprotein of bovine milk-fat-globule membrane. Antibodies against this protein also react with cardiac endothelial cells and epithelial cells of lung bronchioles. Greenwalt et al (1990) have reported that this protein is most likely the cell surface antigen CD36.
