Orphanin FQ is a heptadecapeptide identified and purified from porcine brain tissue as a ligand for an orphan heterotrimeric GTP-binding protein, G-protein-coupled receptor LC132, that is similar in sequence to opioid receptors and is being referred to now as OPRL1 [opioid receptor-like 1; opiate receptor-like 1]. Nishi et al (1994) have cloned the receptor gene as an opioid receptor homolog, which they termed MOR-C. The receptor has been cloned independently by Pan et al (1995), who referred to it as KOR-3 [Kappa-type 3 opioid receptor;
