This gene has been identified among human fetal cochlea EST sequences (Robertson et al, 2000), who called it Otoraplin. It has been identified independently by Rendtorff et al (2001) as MIA-like (abbr. MIAL), showing 43 % sequence identity with bovine CD-RAP and human MIA. The murine gene has been identified in fibrocytes by Cohen-Salmon et al (2000) who designated it fibrocyte-derived protein (abbr. FDP).
