Heckel et al (1997) have identified MIA2 independently as an antigen expressed in meningiomas and referred to it as MEA6 [meningioma expressed antigen 6]. The abbr. MGEA6 has been used also (Comtesse et al, 2002). Usener et al (2003) have referred to the protein as cTAGE5 [Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma–associated antigen 5; CTAGE family member 5], showing that it is overexpressed in cutaneous T-cell lymphomas.
MIA2 is related to MIA. Expression is found specifically in the liver (hepatocytes, but not Kupffer cells or hepatic stellate cells
