[OKT4(+), OKT4(-)]
This is the name of a monoclonal antibody produced against human peripheral blood T-cells (Kung et al, 1979; Reinherz et al, 1979). The antigen recognized by this antibody is frequently referred to simply as T4.
OKT4 is reactive with only 55-60 % of the peripheral blood T-cell population and unreactive with normal B-cells, null cells, and macrophages. The OKT4(+) subset is thought to represent a helper population and the OKT4(-) subset contains the cytotoxic effector cell population.
