Norrin

This protein is encoded by the NDP gene [Norrie disease protein] (NDP is the approved gene symbol). In rodents the gene is being referred to frequently as Ndph [Norrie disease protein homolog].

Norrin is a secreted cysteine-rich protein of 133 amino acids that belongs to the cystine knot growth factor family (Meindl et al, 1992; Meitinger et al, 1993). Perez-Vilar and Hill (1997) have shown that Norrin forms disulfide-linked oligomers associated with the extracellular matrix upon secretion from cells.
